Everyone needs support whether
mentally, physically, socially, financially, or spiritually. Regardless of your
situation, God has all to do all to keep you on the up and up. Like a support
beam in a building, the Lord makes sure you stand against the tests of time.
What is a beam?
Although "beam" is a
word in common usage for engineering design, it has a very particular
definition. A beam is a structural member which spans horizontally between
supports and carries loads which act at right angles to the length of the beam.
Furthermore, the width and depth of the beam are "small" compared
with the span. Typically, the width and depth are less than span/10.
Basic beam behaviour
The detailed behaviour of a beam
is complex and exact analysis requires considerable mathematical
sophistication. However, the vast majority of beams can be designed using
engineering beam theory. This is based on a number of simplifying assumptions.
The structural action of a beam
is represented by internal forces called bending moments and shear forces.
Beam stiffness
When a beam is loaded it will
deflect. This deflection must be limited so that building occupants are
comfortable and that building materials are not damaged. For instance, large
deflections in a steel beam supporting a partition could cause unacceptable
cracking in the plaster.
In general, the calculation of deflection is not straightforward.
However, algebraic expressions are tabulated for many standard cases.
The deflection of a particular beam is inversely proportional to:
·
modulus of elasticity
·
moment of inertia
The modulus of elasticity is constant for all structural steels so the
larger the moment of inertia the smaller the deflection.
Initertia: the ability to do nothing or to remain unchanged. This is
why God is the same powerful, only true living God who is the same yesterday,
today and forever. His unchanged ways helps us avoi damage and distress.
Beam strength
Beams must be sufficiently strong to carry the applied bending moments
and shear forces.
A primary concern of engineering design is to ensure that a chosen beam
is strong enough to carry the load imposed on it safely. This simple concept is
far from simple to quantify.
The beam has to carry both the bending moment and the shear force.
The bending moment and shear force capacities are related to the
physical properties of the cross-section and material strength.
Psa 119:116 Uphold me according to Your
promise, that I may live; and let me not be put to shame in my hope!
[Ps. 25:2; Rom. 5:5; 9:33; 10:11.]
Psa 119:117 Hold me up, that I may be safe
and have regard for Your statutes continually!
When we express our sincere dependence on God, He knows where our hearts
are and is able to abundant things. Shout to the Lord: “Uphold me according to
your promise that I may live! Hold me up that I may be safe!”
It is extremely important to maintain a positive, supporting
relationship with your heavenly Father:
Psa 37:17 For the arms of the wicked shall
be broken, but the Lord upholds the [consistently] righteous.
Psa 37:24 Though he falls, he shall not be
utterly cast down, for the Lord grasps his hand in support and upholds him.
Psa 37:25 I have been young and
now am old, yet have I not seen the [uncompromisingly] righteous forsaken or
their seed begging bread.
Psa 37:26 All day long they are
merciful and deal graciously; they lend, and their offspring are blessed.
Psa 37:27 Depart from evil and
do good; and you will dwell forever [securely].
Psa 41:12 And as for me, You
have upheld me in my integrity and set me in Your presence forever.
Psa 63:7 For You have been my help, and in
the shadow of Your wings will I rejoice.
Psa 63:8 My whole being follows hard after
You and clings closely to You; Your right hand upholds me.
Psa 94:18 When I said, My foot is slipping,
Your mercy and loving-kindness, O Lord, held me up.
This is what God says about your challenges:
Isa 41:10 Fear not [there is nothing to
fear], for I am with you; do not look around you in terror and be dismayed, for
I am your God. I will strengthen and harden you to difficulties, yes, I will
help you; yes, I will hold you up and retain you with My [victorious] right
hand of rightness and justice. [Acts 18:10.]
Isa 42:1 BEHOLD MY Servant, Whom I uphold,
My elect in Whom My soul delights! I have put My Spirit upon Him; He will bring
forth justice and right and reveal truth to the nations. [Matt. 3:16,
17.]
Of David. To you, O LORD, I lift up my soul. O my God, in
you I trust; let me not be put to shame; let not my enemies exult over me.
Indeed, none who wait for you shall be put to shame; they shall be ashamed who
are wantonly treacherous. Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your
paths. Lead me in your truth and teach me, for you are the God of my salvation;
for you I wait all the day long. Remember your mercy, O LORD, and your
steadfast love, for they have been from of old. Remember not the sins of my
youth or my transgressions; according to your steadfast love remember me, for
the sake of your goodness, O LORD! Good and upright is the LORD; therefore he
instructs sinners in the way. He leads the humble in what is right, and teaches
the humble his way. All the paths of the LORD are steadfast love and
faithfulness, for those who keep his covenant and his testimonies. For your
name's sake, O LORD, pardon my guilt, for it is great. Who is the man who fears
the LORD? Him will he instruct in the way that he should choose. His soul shall
abide in well-being, and his offspring shall inherit the land. The friendship
of the LORD is for those who fear him, and he makes known to them his covenant.
My eyes are ever toward the LORD, for he will pluck my feet out of the net. Turn
to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my
heart are enlarged; bring me out of my distresses. Consider my affliction and
my trouble, and forgive all my sins. Consider how many are my foes, and with
what violent hatred they hate me. Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me! Let me not
be put to shame, for I take refuge in you. May integrity and uprightness
preserve me, for I wait for you. Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.
(Psalms
25:1-22)
Rom 5:1 THEREFORE, SINCE we are
justified (acquitted, declared righteous, and given a right standing with God)
through faith, let us [grasp the fact that we] have [the peace of
reconciliation to hold and to enjoy] peace with God through our Lord Jesus
Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One).
Rom 5:2 Through Him also we have
[our] access (entrance, introduction) by faith into this grace (state of God's
favor) in which we [firmly and safely] stand. And let us rejoice and exult in our
hope of experiencing and enjoying the glory of God.
Rom 5:3 Moreover [let us also be
full of joy now!] let us exult and triumph in our troubles and rejoice in our
sufferings, knowing that pressure and affliction and hardship produce patient
and unswerving endurance.
Rom 5:4 And endurance
(fortitude) develops maturity of character (approved faith and tried
integrity). And character [of this sort] produces [the habit of] joyful and
confident hope of eternal salvation.
Rom 5:5 Such hope never disappoints
or deludes or shames us, for God's love has been poured out in our hearts
through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.
Rom 5:6 While we were yet in
weakness [powerless to help ourselves], at the fitting time Christ died for (in
behalf of) the ungodly.
Rom 5:7 Now it is an extraordinary thing
for one to give his life even for an upright man, though perhaps for a noble
and lovable and generous benefactor someone might even dare to die.
Rom 5:8 But God shows and clearly proves
His [own] love for us by the fact that while we were still sinners, Christ (the
Messiah, the Anointed One) died for us.
Rom 5:9 Therefore, since we are
now justified (acquitted, made righteous, and brought into right relationship
with God) by Christ's blood, how much more [certain is it that] we shall be
saved by Him from the indignation and wrath of God.
Rom 5:10 For if while we were
enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, it is much more
[certain], now that we are reconciled, that we shall be saved (daily delivered
from sin's dominion) through His [resurrection] life.
Rom 5:11 Not only so, but we
also rejoice and exultingly glory in God [in His love and perfection] through
our Lord Jesus Christ, through Whom we have now received and enjoy [our]
reconciliation. [Jer. 9:24.]
Rom 9:31 Whereas Israel, though
ever in pursuit of a law [for the securing] of righteousness (right standing with
God), actually did not succeed in fulfilling the Law. [Isa. 51:1.]
Rom 9:32 For what reason?
Because [they pursued it] not through faith, relying [instead] on the merit of
their works [they did not depend on faith but on what they could do]. They have
stumbled over the Stumbling Stone. [Isa. 8:14; 28:16.]
Rom 9:33 As it is written,
Behold I am laying in Zion a Stone that will make men stumble, a Rock that will
make them fall; but he who believes in Him [who adheres to, trusts in, and
relies on Him] shall not be put to shame nor be disappointed in his
expectations. [Isa. 28:16.]
Rom 10:8 But what does it say? The Word
(God's message in Christ) is near you, on your lips and in your heart; that is,
the Word (the message, the basis and object) of faith which we preach,
[Deut. 30:14.]
Rom 10:9 Because if you acknowledge and
confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and in your heart believe (adhere to,
trust in, and rely on the truth) that God raised Him from the dead, you will be
saved.
Rom 10:10 For with the heart a person
believes (adheres to, trusts in, and relies on Christ) and so is justified
(declared righteous, acceptable to God), and with the mouth he confesses
(declares openly and speaks out freely his faith) and confirms [his] salvation.
Rom 10:11 The Scripture says, No man who
believes in Him [who adheres to, relies on, and trusts in Him] will [ever] be
put to shame or be disappointed. [Ps. 34:22; Isa. 28:16; 49:23; Jer.
17:7.]
Rom 10:12 [No one] for there is
no distinction between Jew and Greek. The same Lord is Lord over all [of us]
and He generously bestows His riches upon all who call upon Him [in faith].
Rom 10:13 For everyone who calls
upon the name of the Lord [invoking Him as Lord] will be saved. [Joel 2:32.]
Rom 10:14 But how are people to
call upon Him Whom they have not believed [in Whom they have no faith, on Whom
they have no reliance]? And how are they to believe in Him [adhere to, trust
in, and rely upon Him] of Whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear
without a preacher?
Rom 10:15 And how can men [be
expected to] preach unless they are sent? As it is written, How beautiful are
the feet of those who bring glad tidings! [How welcome is the coming of those
who preach the good news of His good things!] [Isa. 52:7.]
Rom 10:16 But they have not all
heeded the Gospel; for Isaiah says, Lord, who has believed (had faith in) what
he has heard from us? [Isa. 53:1.]
Rom 10:17 So faith comes by
hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the preaching [of the
message that came from the lips] of Christ (the Messiah Himself).
Rom 10:18 But I ask, Have they
not heard? Indeed they have; [for the Scripture says] Their voice [that of
nature bearing God's message] has gone out to all the earth, and their words to
the far bounds of the world. [Ps. 19:4.]
Rom 10:19 Again I ask, Did
Israel not understand? [Did the Jews have no warning that the Gospel was to go
forth to the Gentiles, to all the earth?] First, there is Moses who says, I
will make you jealous of those who are not a nation; with a foolish nation I
will make you angry. [Deut. 32:21.]
Rom 10:20 Then Isaiah is so bold
as to say, I have been found by those who did not seek Me; I have shown
(revealed) Myself to those who did not [consciously] ask for Me. [Isa. 65:1.]
Rom 10:21 But of Israel he says,
All day long I have stretched out My hands to a people unyielding and
disobedient and self-willed [to a faultfinding, contrary, and contradicting
people]. [Isa. 65:2.]
1Pe 2:6 For thus it stands in
Scripture: Behold, I am laying in Zion a chosen (honored), precious chief
Cornerstone, and he who believes in Him [who adheres to, trusts in, and relies
on Him] shall never be disappointed or put to shame. [Isa. 28:16.]
1Pe 2:7 To you then who believe (who
adhere to, trust in, and rely on Him) is the preciousness; but for those who
disbelieve [it is true], The [very] Stone which the builders rejected has
become the main Cornerstone, [Ps. 118:22.]
1Pe 2:8 And, A Stone that will cause stumbling
and a Rock that will give [men] offense; they stumble because they disobey and
disbelieve [God's] Word, as those [who reject Him] were destined (appointed) to
do.
1Pe 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a
royal priesthood, a dedicated nation, [God's] own purchased, special people,
that you may set forth the wonderful deeds and display the virtues and
perfections of Him Who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light.
[Exod. 19:5, 6.]
1Pe 2:10 Once you were not a people [at
all], but now you are God's people; once you were unpitied, but now you are
pitied and have received mercy. [Hos. 2:23.]
