Psalm 119:97-104

 Mem. Oh how I love your law! It is my meditation all the day. Your commandment makes me wiser than my enemies, for it is ever with me. I have more understanding than all my teachers, for your testimonies are my meditation. I understand more than the aged, for I keep your precepts. I hold back my feet from every evil way, in order to keep your word. I do not turn aside from your rules, for you have taught me. How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth! Through your precepts I get understanding; therefore I hate every false way.

(Psalms 119:97-104)

There is a phrase that people use from time to time, especially when they are trying to achieve something. Folk would say: “Fake it until you make it." For some it means to portray a certain image until you actually become what you portray. It may include perpetrating being more than you are until you get what comes your way. Some people may even accept being a phony bolony (which is bologna, depending on how you say it), where you are literally like mystery meat and nobody really knows what you are made of or where you come from with of this unreal, made-up, wishing you could but never are what you set out to be.

Do you recall a matter that was on social media where a rich man in Asia found out that hiswife was not who he thought he married? He thought she was the distinguished, beautiful woman who would complement his statue and success, and they would raise lovely, beautiful children. Well, as they began to have children, he realized the children did not look like him or her. The children has some features that were unbecoming to his eyes. After thorough research and dialogue, he found out that the woman has a complete facial makeover surgery that changed her eyes, nose, and facial structure. He sued her for misleading him into thinking she was the beautiful woman he intended to marry.

If it takes being a fake and phony, you don't have to fake it until you make it. Why be a fake when you can be the real deal? Instead of living in false hope, you can live a life of unmeasurable blessings.

Exchange the fake it make it theory to: Faith It and He Will Make It. If you have faith in God, He shall make His favor available to you.

The psalmist in Psalm 119 constantly verses how he meditates on God's law, commandments, wisdom, testimonies, word, and precepts. He expresses his love for the True and Mighty Jehovah who reigns over all the earth. His goal is to consistently seek the Lord, keep His word, gain understanding, and stay within the realm of God's goodness. Why? Because he knows God supplies his ever need from the inside out as long as he trusts, relies, and depends on Him.

By being real with God and keeping his faith in the Lord, He is able to reap the benefits of everything God has to offer. Through His favor we have protection, instruction, salvation, and a destination which is heaven.

Several times in Psalm 119:97-104, the words meditation, understanding, and precepts are mentioned several times:

Psa 119:97  MEM. O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.

Psa 119:99  I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.

Psa 119:100  I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.

Psa 119:104  Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

Understanding

UNDERSTAND'ING, ppr.

1. Comprehending; apprehending the ideas or sense of another, or of a writing; learning or being informed.

2. a. Knowing; skillful. He is an understanding man.

UNDERSTAND'ING, n.

1. The faculty of the human mind by which it apprehends the real state of things presented to it, or by which it receives or comprehends the ideas which others express and intend to communicate. The understanding is called also the intellectual faculty. It is the faculty by means of which we obtain a great part of our knowledge. Luke 24. Eph 1.

By understanding I mean that faculty whereby we are enabled to apprehend the objects of knowledge, generals or particulars, absent or present, and to judge of their truth or falsehood, good or evil.

There is a spirit in man, and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth him understanding. Job 32.

2. Knowledge; exact comprehension.

Right understanding consists in the perception of the visible or probably agreement or disagreement of ideas.

3. Intelligence between two or more persons; agreement of minds; union of sentiments. There is a good understanding between the minister and his people.

Precept

1. In a general sense, any commandment or order intended as an authoritative rule of action; but applied particularly to commands respecting moral conduct. The ten commandments are so many precepts for the regulation of our moral conduct.

No arts are without their precepts.

2. In law, a command or mandate in writing.

Case in point: Meditating, understanding and following God's commands is important if you want to succeed in life. It takes faith to accomplish these actions on a daily basis.

Success, in a worldly view, can be defined in many ways. Success, from a holy sense, is only possible by showing your faith as you meditate, understand, and follow Him through:

3. Refraining (from the world's wickedness)

4. Sustaining (His word)
