God’s Favor For Me
Psalm 119:65-72
You have dealt well with Your servant, O Lord, according to
Your promise. Teach me good judgment, wise and right discernment, and
knowledge, for I have believed (trusted, relied on, and clung to) Your
commandments. Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now Your word do I keep
[hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying it].
You are good and kind and do good; teach me Your statutes. The arrogant and
godless have put together a lie against me, but I will keep Your precepts with
my whole heart. Their hearts are as fat as grease [their
minds are dull and brutal], but I delight in Your law. It is good
for me that I have been afflicted, that I might learn Your statutes. The law
from Your mouth is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.

Obtaining the favor of the Lord is obtaining His delight,
acceptance, satisfaction, affection, and approval. You have accomplished life
when you have received God’s wisdom in how to live each day.
For whoever finds me [Wisdom]
finds life and draws forth and obtains favor from the Lord.
(Proverbs 8:35)
Psalm 119: 65-72 continues to illustrate the God’s Word and
how we are to have the favor of Him in every area of our lives.

Look closely and what we see is the abundance of Jehovah’s
offerings. The psalmist recognizes these things are benefits that helps him,
and us, focus on the goodness of God’s grace. O Lord, you have supplied us with
the favor of:

1. What
God speaks is greater than any worldly possession.
a. verse 72 states “the law from your mouth
is better to me than thousands of gold and silver pieces.”
i. More to be desired are they than gold,
yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the droppings of the
honeycomb. Psalm 19:10
2. His
instruction flows like mighty river.
a. “My delight is in your law.” Verse 70
i. Blessed is
the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way
of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he
meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of
water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not
wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. Psalm 1:1-3
3. There
is no greater appointment than What the Lord gives you.
i. “I will keep your precepts with my whole
heart.” Verse 69
1. We never do wrong when we allow Him to
oversee our situation. He instructs and appoints on a higher level than our
selfish intentions.
2. “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found,
call ye upon him while he is near: Let the wicked forsake his way, and the
unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will
have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. For my
thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are
my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the
rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but
watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to
the sower, and bread to the eater: So shall my word be that goeth forth out of
my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which
I please, and it shall prosper in the thing
whereto I sent it. For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace:
the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all
the trees of the field shall clap their
hands. Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the
brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the LORD for a name,
for an everlasting sign that shall not
be cut off. Isaiah 55:6-13
4. Lifelong
learning is important to the eternal opportunity.
a. “teach me your statutes….so I may learn
your statutes.” Verses 68, 71
5. His
Word stands above all things.
a. Before I was afflicted I went astray,
but now Your word do I keep [hearing, receiving,
loving, and obeying it]. (Psalms 119:67)
6. A
covenant agreement is made through the Lord’s commandments
a. Teach me good judgment, wise and right
discernment, and knowledge, for I have believed (trusted, relied on, and clung
to) Your commandments. Verse 66
7. God’s
promise to not only to take care of your current needs. He has also taken care
of your everlasting need.
a. You have dealt with me, your servant,
according to your promise. Verse 65
b. For to us a Child is born, to us a Son
is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder, and His name shall be
called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father [of Eternity], Prince of Peace. [Isa. 25:1; 40:9-11; Matt. 28:18; Luke 2:11.] Of
the increase of His government and of peace there shall be no end, upon the
throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with
justice and with righteousness from the [latter]
time forth, even forevermore. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.
[Dan. 2:44; I Cor. 15:25-28; Heb. 1:8.] Isaiah 9: 6-7
c. Isaiah 25:1 O LORD, You are my God; I
will exalt You, I will praise Your name, for You have done wonderful things,
even purposes planned of old [and fulfilled]
in faithfulness and truth.
d. Isaiah 40: 9-11 O you who bring good
tidings to Zion, get up to the high mountain. O you who bring good tidings to
Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength, lift it up, be not afraid; say to
the cities of Judah, Behold your God! [Acts 10:36;
Rom. 10:15.] Behold, the Lord God will come with might, and His arm
will rule for Him. Behold, His reward is with Him, and His recompense before
Him. [Rev. 22:7, 12.] He will feed His
flock like a shepherd: He will gather the lambs in His arm, He will carry them
in His bosom and will gently lead those that have their young.
e. Matthew 28:18 Jesus approached and,
breaking the silence, said to them, All authority (all power of rule) in heaven
and on earth has been given to Me. Go then and make disciples of all the nations,
baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, Teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you, and
behold, I am with you all the days (perpetually, uniformly, and on every
occasion), to the [very] close and
consummation of the age. Amen (so let it be).
f. Luke 2:11 For to you is born this day in
the town of David a Savior, Who is Christ (the Messiah) the Lord! [Mic. 5:2.]
g. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent
in the desert [on a pole], so must [so it is necessary that] the Son of Man be lifted
up [on the cross], [Num. 21:9.] In order that everyone who believes
in Him [who cleaves to Him, trusts Him, and relies
on Him] may not perish, but have eternal life and [actually] live forever! For God so greatly loved
and dearly prized the world that He [even]
gave up His only begotten (unique) Son, so that whoever believes in (trusts in,
clings to, relies on) Him shall not perish (come to destruction, be lost) but
have eternal (everlasting) life. For God did not send the Son into the world in
order to judge (to reject, to condemn, to pass sentence on) the world, but that
the world might find salvation and be made safe and sound through Him. John 3:14-17
There is no greater favor
(delight, passion, acceptance,
accomplishment) than
having Jesus as Lord and Savior of your life.
