It's National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (February 23 to March 1): Breaking the Silence on Men and Boys’ Eating Disorders

When you think of eating disorders, men are probably not the first thing coming to your mind. However, during this National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (http://nedawareness.org/faq), February 23rd to March 1st Men’s Health Network (MHN) is concerned with the ever growing trend of men and boys suffering from eating disorders in silence.
"It is undeniable that women in our culture often face great social pressure to attain an idealized body image,” said Jean J. E. Bonhomme, MD, MPH, member of MHN Board of Directors and National Black Men’s Health Networkfounder. “Until recently however, we have overlooked the fact that men may face comparable pressures to be lean, muscular, and ripped.  Few men are can attain athletic physiques like Superman or Captain America, but too many will embrace unsafe dietary practices striving towards perfect body images.  Eating disorders have become so common among men that the term "manorexia" is fast becoming part of the lexicon."
Although women are more commonly affected by eating disorders, millions of men and boys battle all forms of the illness. For years, it was believed that a small portion of individuals suffering from eating disorders coming to the attention of mental health professionals were male. More recent research suggests that the number is much higher. According to the National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) (http://nedawareness.org/key-messages), in the United States, 20 million women and 10 million men suffer from a clinically significant eating disorder at some time in their life, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, binge eating disorder, or other specified feeding or eating disorder (OSFED).
While eating disorders are serious, potentially life-threatening illnesses, help is available and recovery is possible. It is important for those affected, and their loved ones, to remember that they are not alone in their struggle. Others have recovered and are now living healthy fulfilling lives. Let NEDA and MHN be a part of your network of support. NEDA has information and resources available online helpline: www.NationalEatingDisorders.org, NEDA Helpline: 800-931-2237. You can also take a confidential and free screening quiz for eating disorders here (https://www.mentalhealthscreening.org/screening/NEDA).
MHN provides a couple of nutritional brochures on Healthy Food Makes Healthy Kids (http://www.menshealthnetwork.org/library/nutritionparents.pdf) and Your Healthy Living Game Plan (http://www.menshealthnetwork.org/library/Nutrition.pdf) with nutrition advice for men.
National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) supports individuals and families affected by eating disorders, and serves as a catalyst for prevention, cures and access to quality care. NEDA envisions a world without eating disorder. We can confront these serious illnesses with increased awareness, early intervention and improved access to treatment. NEDA provides programs and services to give families the support they need to find answers for these life-threatening illnesses. Recovery is possible. We are working to make it happen.
Men's Health Network (MHN) is a national non-profit organization whose mission is to reach men, boys, and their families where they live, work, play, and pray with health prevention messages and tools, screening programs, educational materials, advocacy opportunities, and patient navigation. Nearly two weeks and counting....

Yes, it has been nearly two weeks since I've made a post on my blog. It's been a busy week though!

I am staying on track with all of my efforts including the engine2diet. A lot of things have been going on . The most important thing is to maintain a very healthy diet. I feel great! Lots of kale, greens and other colorful vegetables make a delicious meal. The combinations of flavors are endless.

This week I had the opportunity to see a monster truck up close! Take a look at my pic.  It's amazing to see how such a large  vehicle can crush so many other  vehicles!

Of course, today is Valentine's Day. Remember the ones you love. Not just on this day, but on every day of your life.

Be positive and be blessed.

TGIF! Still alive on days 4 & 5! 28 Day Challenge

Days four and five of the 28 Day Challenge have been terrific!

No need and turning back. We are on the move. The first week was fabulous. I cannot emphasize enough how great it feels to meet the challenge. I wonder how many other people are doing the same thing throughout this month of  February.

Really, it does not matter because I would do it if I was alone. Some people just don't understand. There's no need for others to understand as long as you know what and why your are carrying out a mission for better health and wealth ad your soul prospers.

The weekend should be a breeze. If I keep the pace at which I'm going, the results will be amazing.

Stay tuned for updates. Remember the best is yet to come!

Be positive and be blessed.

Trennie

P.S. The pic is a dessert I have no need our desire of. Maybe one day I'll have a treat. That could be weeks from now. At the present, I aiming towards my goal to hit the bullseye.

Hump Day! Day 3 of 28 Day Challenge!

It is Hump Day! This is my third day on the 28 Day Challenge with the engine 2 diet. Feeling great each day. If there was a word to describe what I'm going through, it would be: refreshed.

A physical refreshing requires a mental and spiritual refreshing. You have to start each day and each moment of the day with a fresh look on life. No longer should you sit in the  stillness of past regrets, hardships, downfalls, and rejections. Such an attitude creates the stress, worry, you'll misses, and more difficulties that you figured it is too hard to deal with.

Now is the time to get your head out of the gutter. Now is the time to look up. Now is the time so you to get up and get moving . Only you can do that. Only you should do that.

The greatest mistake most people make is being stuck on doing nothing. 0 plus 0 equals zero. 0 times 0 equals zero. So if you want to make  ground you have to add some greatness to your life. And the more you add of greatness, goodness, love, hope,  faith, and self control, you will make plenty of progress each and every day.

Look at it this way: you have already made it through most of the week! Regardless of what happens around you and with you, you have accomplished the  task of moving from one day to the next. What you must do now is realize that there is something great is about to happen to you. As a matter of fact, something great is happening right now! This is Your moment. This is your time. This is your opportunity to live a life of fullness and satisfaction and purpose. Will you take on the challenge?

Be positive and be blessed.

28 Day Challenge day 2

Day 2 has been great!

I experienced a perfect exercise regimen early this morning that included an  abdominal exercise routine. I'm pushing my limits every minute! There had to be at least a few hundred crutches in this routine. I definitely worked up a sweat.

My meals and snacks  for the day included nothing but fruits and vegetables. I was able to have one of my favorites: celery and almond butter. Also today i had some seeded grapes and a banana. Oh yes, I had one Clementine for snack!

I figured if Daniel and the other Hebrew boys could do it, I can also!

Let me bring about 1 point for you. If you want to do better, you must change your habits. Instead of junkie junk foods like greasy potato chips, fattening pastries and sugary drinks, try some fresh fruit,  vegetables and water!

Drink plenty of water. Most people hardly drink enough water. Be specific about your water. Alkaline water is very helpful, beneficial for your total physical well-being. If you want more information about alkaline water, visit my website and click on the  health to tab at www.TRENNIE.com.
